There's a lot you can do with carob powder. I'll begin by saying that it is very tasty when you stir a heaping spoonful (or two) into some milk. You'll need to vigorously stir it in so it all gets mixed. Then enjoy! Carob powder naturally contains sugars so it makes for a nicely sweetened cup of "chocolate" milk, but without the white sugar or corn syrup which is in a lot of powdered chocolate drink mixes. It also contains calcium, potassium, magnesium and is rich in dietary fiber. I like using raw goat milk, which I believe is better for you than pasteurized cows milk, but you can use any kind of milk. Try warming it first, or add some maple syrup.
The other very simple simple way to eat carob powder is to add it to a smoothie. Check out the recipe below:
Peanut Butter Cup Smoothie
- 3/4 cup frozen banana chunks
- 1 cup milk (any kind of milk will work, even the non-dairy kind)
- 2 TBSP peanut butter
- A heaping spoonful of carob powder
- TBSP of honey or maple syrup
Blend, then enjoy! Feel free to experiment with whatever you have at the time, and it's still great without the peanut butter- try almond or cashew butter if you like.
Carob Yogurt
Try blending or stirring some carob powder into your favorite yogurt ( I make my own) for a nice tasting treat. You can put some of our granola on top...
I'll add more later, but I thought this would be a good start.
